0:00:00they are usually on the letter
0:00:07she
0:00:13the genetic resources that we have come from really very few species that we eating
0:00:18consume and use for all sorts of fruit purposes
0:00:21and preserving those conserving those is vital for the future generations
0:00:26we have to make sure that we can keep that diversity available
0:00:30accessible and usable for humanity into the future
0:00:38it provides a sort of international watchdog a means by which countries can come together
0:00:43and hold each other to account and what they doing monitor what's happening to genetic
0:00:48resources around the world and focus on real actions to achieve sustainability sustainable use
0:00:55these on meant to just sit there is resources in agriculture they have to be
0:00:58used
0:00:59and this is something that the commission
0:01:01bring is
0:01:02a unified means of two of delivering of bringing these things together in a constructive
0:01:06way so that we can all benefit from sustainable use
0:01:15the commission really needs to be there
0:01:17if it wasn't we'd have countries playing their own personal interests we have
0:01:23private corporations playing their own personal interest in making use of resources
0:01:29which would lead very quickly to those who have most benefiting most but many others
0:01:34being exploited and
0:01:37degraded their resources be integrated in the process
0:01:40so this is something where the role of the commission is essential in providing an
0:01:44oversight across all of those countries and providing a mutual accountability for how genetic resources
0:01:50used
0:01:51to ensure that being used for the benefit if you melody not just for personal
0:01:55okay
0:02:01what was saying now is countries are really aware and awake to genetic resources but
0:02:07they're often still struggling to deal with them given the maze of complex legislation and
0:02:13interactions that these things involved
0:02:15so what the commission can play a very valuable role isn't helping to ensure that
0:02:20developing countries in particular have the capacity to engage with other countries on an equal
0:02:26basis not simply have less information therefore be less equipped but be able to state
0:02:31their own case
0:02:33on a and equal footing with those two perhaps may have much more advanced or
0:02:37much broader knowledge of the particular
0:02:39crosser animals in question
0:02:42and so bring in this equipped ability to the process i think is very important
0:02:46well so countries are developing their own frameworks now for how to deal with sustainable
0:02:51use of genetic resources
0:02:54but those need to move beyond the paper we need to become put into action
0:02:58they need to become practical processes that will ensure sustainable use
0:03:02not just be tied up in a in a piece of legislation somewhere or policy
0:03:06statement but turned into practical actions
0:03:13it brings a real connection between the role of the global forum in agriculture research
0:03:18and we exist to be a multi stakeholder body looking at all these issues
0:03:23bringing the
0:03:24focus of attention to the for the center of the processes and looking at how
0:03:28all of these mechanisms can benefit the pour in particular
0:03:32and so that means a very good interaction between the intergovernmental process of the commission
0:03:37and what we're doing in practical terms with farmers with n g os with research
0:03:42borders with extension what is and so on
0:03:44to really turn those principles and practice
0:03:47and so i think it's a very good synergy between the commission and the global
0:03:51forum agriculture research because we're both striving for the same names but we reach fulfilling
0:03:57a part of that magic store necessary actions
0:04:05well my six words
0:04:07firstly intergovernmental very important state as
0:04:11biodiversity a call focus of what the commission works on
0:04:16sustainability vital push that the commission is striving for
0:04:22and two other functions coordination the commission plays a very important coordinating role
0:04:28between different treaties and between different governments bring
0:04:32a logical or flow to how these processes time together
0:04:36and vitally i think is that of support supporting actions all around the world to
0:04:42ensure the sustainable use of a genetic resources of plants and animals in agriculture
